Biological or chemical contamination

Notify the University Guard: (22 55) 22 112, who will inform the relevant services of the hazard (indicate the contaminated area / number of people affected).

You can also notify the services directly by calling the emergency number 112.

•   If you are in a contaminated facility:

  • stay there;
  • inform others of the danger;
  • close doors and windows;
  • turn off air conditioning and fans, close vents, close window frames;
  • find rooms without windows;
  • avoid staying in basements and other low-lying areas of the building;
  • avoid unnecessary oxygen consumption;
  • switch on the radio or television (preferably a local station);
  • use personal protective equipment (cover your nose/mouth with a damp cloth/scarf, etc.);
  • wait for the arrival/orders of the services!

•   If you are in an open contaminated area:

  • find the nearest open building;
  • if possible, move perpendicular to the wind direction, protect your airways (e.g. breathe through a handkerchief);
  • let endangered passers-by into the building;
  • after finding shelter, wash your face, hair and hands thoroughly, clean your eyes and ears;
  • leave outer clothing and footwear outside the building in case of contact with hazardous substances.

•   If contamination has occurred:

  • do not touch or smell the suspect objects, do not clean up the powder, do not wipe off the liquid;
  • to prevent the spread of the substance, cover it with a blanket, for example;
  • close the windows and doors and switch off the air conditioning, avoid draughts;
  • leave the room and do not allow others to enter;
  • wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water (do not touch your face, eyes or mouth with unwashed hands);
  • remove clothing that has come into contact with the suspect substance and place it in a plastic bag;
  • wash yourself in the shower;
  • do not eat, drink or smoke after coming into contact with suspicious substances;
  • all persons who have come into contact with the suspicious substance or are within approximately 5m of it should notify the University Guard / report to the police.

•   If there has been aerosol contamination of the premises:

  • turn off fans and air conditioning throughout the area;
  • close windows and doors, leave the room;
  • turn off the air conditioning in the building;
  • make a list of all persons present and make it available to the University Guard / police.
